Short Assignment: Color Portraits

At the beginning of our portraiture segment, our professor began with assigning us a short assignment to interview a few of our peers to create a color portrait that would represent them. I decided to explore a park and see if there was anything that caught my attention. These are the color portraits of a few of my classmates:

Sachin by Jenelle:

I spoke to Sachin and one of the things that stood out when he had spoken to me about himself was his interest in movies (Parasite) and TV shows (Westworld, Black Mirror) that make people think. Trees have been associated with wisdom and thinking. Some of his favorite colors were dark green and dark blue. He also had mentioned that in his photographs he likes to focus on shadows, landscapes, and framing. After coming across this tree, it seemed to represent the thought of thinking, colors of blue and green from the sky, and incorporated shadows in the way the light shined on this object.

Jae by Jenelle:

Jae had mentioned that some of his favorite colors were orange-brown, black, and white. He enjoys playing video games , but also enjoys spending time exploring nature and landscapes (Yosemite and Yellowstone, to name a few). He also likes the movie, The Matrix and is interested in attending NYU to achieve a master in fine arts (MFA) degree. This structure material seemed to relate to science fiction and what might appear in video game locations, contains orange-brown leaves that introduce the pop of color out of the monotonous gray (between black and white), and has trees and nature in the surrounding. It also is as if this movement was in slow motion, which relates to The Matrix. In addition, many of the current NYU MFA Student works contain a theme of structure.
