Synopsis
This project was inspired by nature and landscape photographer Eliot Porter, as well as Women In Trees by Jochen Raiss. I also admire Julia Lorraine Hill, American environmental activist. She lived in a 180-foot tall 1500-year-old California redwood tree for 738 days between December 10, 1997 and December 18, 1999. She named the tree Luna, wanting to prevent Pacific Lumber Company loggers from cutting it down. She wrote The Legacy of Luna and co-author of One Makes the Difference. Growing up surrounded by trees, I developed a passion for climbing. Climbing trees helps form an intimate connection with nature, deepening appreciation for our environment.
With heavy deforestation in recent decades, the need to assign value to nature is urgent. I recently learned that trees are able to communicate through their root systems and assess the health of closeby family. When in need, tree families can send each other water and nutrients through their roots. These amazing beings give us life, so by saving them, we save ourselves. Hug a tree today. Plant a tree tomorrow. Maybe you’ll find inspiration to climb one. It’s not only great exercise, but a sweet escape, and beautiful view.
