My final project is called “Neijingtu( 内经图).” I did this drawing on my Ipad with an APP called SketchBook.
Neijingtu, according to my own understanding, means the map of the inner meridian. The meridian system is a concept in traditional Chinese medication and Taoism, and meridians are the paths through which the life-energy “Qi” flows.
In Taoism, 炁, read as “Qi,” is the life-energy that we naturally have. This Qi is different from another “qi (气),” which is the life-energy we gain after our birth. The main goal for Taoists is to find the natural order of the universe and become a “Xian,” to be immortal. In Taoism philosophy, Qi is the source energy of the universe. In order to become immortal, Taoists need to strengthen both mind and body, and back to the Qi. (I know this part is a little bit hard to understand, Qi is more like a concept, or a status; instead of an actual thing.)
Neijingtu is how Taoism thinks about the human body.
In Taoism and traditional Chinese medication, the world has five basic elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Each of these five elements is matching with five different most important organs in our bodies.
Metal — Lung
Wood — Liver
Water — Kidney
Fire — Heart
Earth — Spleen
The traditional Chinese medication believes that most of the diseases we have are because of the disorder of these five organs or the five elements. If we can take care of these five elements, even we could not become immortal, we still could have a long life.
(As there are a lot of Taoism and traditional Chinese medication concepts that are difficult to understand, I would give some more explanation during the final.)
