Lee Friedlander

Lee was born in 1934, and found his own interests about photograph at 14. He studied photograph at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

In 1960s to 1970s, Lee evolved an influential and often imitated visual language, which is called urban “social landscape”. And a social landscape is to use detached images of urban life, store-front, structures framed by fences, and poster and signs all combining to capture the look of modern life.

Lee is really good at using the reflection of the show-window to create his work.

he sometimes will use his own reflection to create photos.

Lee used to say: “The world makes up my pictures, not me.” and “Sometimes just the facts of the matter make it interesting.”

He also said: ” Photographs also show the way that camera sees. It’s not just me or you or anybody else. The camera does something that is different from our own setting.”

In general, i think what he took is more of emotions instead of just the objects we see, which is what i am trying to present in my photos, and the reason why i like his work.
