Lido Rico was born in Spain in 1968. He graduated in 1991 at the École Superiere du Beaux Arts du Paris. In his sculptures, he uses the human body as a site of conflict. He also uses his own body as a creative tool and an element of his work. He is inspired by his own memory and life. Lido Rico wants his audiences to reflect on his own life while experiencing his memories. His work includes memory, time, existentialism and human struggle (“Lido Rico’s sculpture paintings reflect internal agony in Istanbul”, 2022). He believes that the human body is limited, but the human mind is concrete and real. There are numerous hand and face elements in his work. Most of his works reflect human suffering and struggle. His work reminds me of the pain and struggle of modern man. Under the high pressure of modern cities, people seem to have no choice but to work hard to survive. In his sculptures, half of some people are in the walls. It made me feel stressed and unfree. In the work Mute, 2013, the head gagged with a rope reminds me of free speech.
