Task 6: Final Project Proposals

Proposal #1:

  1. The Third Prince
  2. For this project, I will be using studio lights to shoot high-key, low-key, different color profiles, pack-lighting, and other techniques learned in class, of a traditional Taiwanese folklore dance called the Three Princes.  This dance involves a suit that resembles a person and is depicted as a Taiwanese god in temple dances, performances, and rituals. The diety is said to have Buddhist and Daoist ideas associated with it and is an important symbol in traditional temple festivals. This dance is revered to have a very colorful and flashy display, so I will experiment with highlighting these aspects as well as making a more low-key ominous feeling as well. The suit itself has many colors that are vibrant on it, so with the use of lighting and various intensities, I will attempt to display the flashiness that it was meant to have. They are often performed at temples similar to traditional Chinese lion or dragon dances/parades and are often performed with techno music or electronic dance music. The use of color gels and different white balances could complement the lighting to have a temple flashy feel. I want to do this project because not many images have these deities in a studio lighting set, and I believe that with the use of studio lighting it would look really great, especially with how bright the colors on it are.
  3. I will produce images with various lighting and angles, including but not limited to high-key, low-key, and pack lighting. I will be using techniques learned in class at the lighting studio. I will be using the flash setups and possibly color gels. I will use either black or white backdrops.
