Following up on our 2003 study (Mak et al.), van Herpen et al. (2023) suggest there is a significant mineral dust-sea salt aerosol removal mechanism for atmospheric methane that can explain the 13CO observations in Barbados. IN that paper we estimate this unaccounted methae sink may be up to 5% of the global CH4 sink. We will be investigating the presence and magnitude of this phenomena in the summer of 2024. CHLOROX will take place in June-July and will overlap with MAGPIE, an ONR funded physical meteorology field campaign that will also be based out of Barbados. CHLOROX is a collaborative project with Maarten van Herpen, Matt Johnson, Delphine Farmer, Patrick Veres, Brett Palm, and Thomas Rockmann and is supported by the US National Science Foundation and SPARK Climate.
