Self-Portraiture
- Self–Portraiture is a broad category of photography. There are many interpretations of what
qualifies work as self–portraiture. For this project, it need only tell something about you. It
does not necessarily need to show your face or body (although it may). Take some time to
think about what you’d like to express about yourself – consider your personal
characteristics or idiosyncrasies (ask a friend to share a few descriptors). What are your
favorite places/home/room? Your portrait may connect with a favorite poem or equation,
activity, landscape, object or character you want to personify. You may even want to
experiment with reflective surfaces or objects like the photographer Vivian Maier.
