Why I Chose Biomedical Engineering

I have chosen to minor in Bioengineering as it combines two of my favorite academic topics: biology and engineering which has a basis in mathematics. As an AMS and BIO double major, I believe this minor well compliments other studies by combining the theory behind my two majors in a way which is physically tangible. Further, I believe that the design concepts I will learn in this class will help me as a physician develop perhaps new treatments for my patients or find a new way to approach a problem. While I don’t expect it to be my main goal as a physician, I am especially intrigued by the design of medical devices. Perhaps if I notice that conventional treatment for a problem is far from optimal, I will be able to on the side conceptualize and perhaps develop a medical device which can help solve the problem.
