Research Experience
Lab of Dr. Elyse Sussman (Jun 2015 – Sep 2016)
Albert Einstein College of Medicine – Bronx, NY
DSSROP participant, Undergraduate Intern, Student Trainee
Investigated mechanisms of Auditory Scene Analysis (ASA) through EEG experiments. Analyzed behavioral and neurophysiological data collected, and used the mismatch negativity (MMN) component of EEG to identify stream segregation. Developed and completed a behavioral study investigating the auditory-state response (ASSR) and stream segregation, which led to an EEG pilot study. Co-mentored and undergraduate student in the analysis of the behavioral pilot and EEG pilot of ASSR.
Results were presented at the SURP Symposium, the Fordham University Physics Department Student Colloquium, and the Annual CSTEP Symposium.
Research was supported by Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Diversity Student Summer Opportunity Program and Fordham University CSTEP.
Lab of Dr. Taviare Hawkins (Summer 2014)
University of Wisconsin-La Crosse – La Crosse, Wisconsin
Summer Research Student
Investigated the persistence length of microtubules. Let and supervised a team of two undergraduates.
Results were presented at the UW-LaX Research Symposium, CWU-REU Symposium, Fordham University Physics Department Student Colloquium, and the CSTEP Annual Statewide Conference. Awarded 1st place in Math and Physics division of CSTEP Annual Statewide Conference poster competition.
Research supported by the NSF and was part of the Central Washington University REU program.
Work Experience
Teaching Assistant (Sept 2017-Present)
Stony Brook University – Stony Brook, NY
Led recitation classes for BME271-Bioelectricity and Biophotonics. Held weekly office hours. Assisted with grading homework assignments and exams. Held review sessions for students before exams
Instructor for Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) (Jul 2016 – Present)
Fordham University – New York, NY
Summer 2017
Taught daily hour and half long Physics and Calculus classes to high school students to prepare them for the start of the academic year. Developed a streamlined, easy-to-use gradekeeper and grade curving calculator on Google Sheets for fellow STEP instructors to assist in monitoring student progress and grade calculation. Awarded the STEP Faculty Service Award.
Fall 2016 – Spring 2017
Taught weekly hour and a half long classes to high school students taking Physics and Calculus during the school year in order to prepare them for the NYS regents exams, AP exams, and future college courses.
Summer 2016
Proposed, planned, and taught “Intro to Engineering Modeling and Design” to high school students in STEP, which introduced basic and necessary tools in Solidworks, such as drawing and building components based on schematics and assemblies, in order to increase interest in STEM in minority teens. Led to a final project, in which students designed, build, and 3D printed a rubber band powered car and raced each other.
Tutor/Study Hall Coordinator for Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) (Summer 2017)
Fordham University – Bronx, NY
Provided tutoring in Pre-Calculus and Chemistry to CSTEP Summer Scholars, a pre-college summer program for incoming freshmen interested in STEM. Managed students during nightly study hall hours, and provided advice to how to effectively study. Reviewed and edited essays written for Service Learning seminar. Provided comments to students to be more aware of using more appropriate and sensitive language when writing about race, gender, and sexual orientation.
Instructor for CSTEP (Sep 2016 – May 2017)
Fordham University – New York, NY
Taught weekly, hour-long review classes to undergraduate students taking general physics in calculus. Reviewed and edited Physics lab reports. Provided after hours online homework help to students.
Tutor/Counselor CSTEP (Sep 2012 – May 2016)
Fordham University – Bronx, NY
Tutored in Physics and various math courses to middle school and high school program, STEP. Assisted STEP Saturday instructors in handing out class material, supervising students, helping out students with classwork. Mentored minority high school interested in pursuing careers in STEM through large Q&A panels and one-on-one mentoring activities.
Volunteer Experience
Alumni Mentor (Dec 2017 – Present)
Fordham University – Bronx, NY
Mentored an undergraduate student at Fordham University through CSTEP. Provided insight on what graduate school is like and advice on how to survive freshman year at Fordham as a pre-med student.
Mentor (Feb 2017 – Present)
NYC Department of Education – New York, NY
Worked with NYC high school students through Youth CareerConnect (YCC). YCC is a grant-based program designed to increase students’ employability through rigorous, career-focused curriculums, internships and apprenticeships, career and networking panels, and academic and career counseling. Provided insight to students interested in engineering and medicine by sharing my undergraduate experiences.
