Final Project

Personal statement : “Long Island Water Ways”

Long Island is a very unique place. The island itself was made by glacial deposits making the geology of the island unique to that of mainland Ny. because of the unique nature in which Long Island was created the island itself poses an odd shape, long and slender and terminating in two forks the island resembles a large fish or whale. This shape is very fitting, considering the history and culture of Long island. For decades many of the island’s industries have relied upon the many bodies of water that surround it, from the Atlantic ocean, and the Peconic Bay, to the Long Island sound.

As a native Long Islander, for the majority of my life I’ve been surrounded by water, growing up on the shore of the great Peconic bay, many of my summers have been spent participating in activities such as swimming, sailing, fishing, or just walking along beaches. Water is in my blood, and with my project I hope to capture the special relationship that has developed between the people of Long Island, New York and the waterways that surround it.
