Finals Week

For my work of fiction project, I decided to capture what finals week is like for students at Stony Brook. I asked a bunch of my friends to fill a lounge in Heavy Engineering and empty the contents of their backpacks around the tables to create a disheveled look. I asked them to think for three minutes what finals week was for them, and that they were free to play with anything on the table. After about five minutes, I shot this picture. I really like that it feels as if people are really studying in the foreground, and the people in the background seem stressed. I feel like this accurately captures how finals are for students at Stony Brook. I edited the photo to create a blue cast as I associate blue with sadness and added a light vignette instead of a dark because I liked the way the photo transformed into a sort of “detached world”.
