Recently in biology classes, I have been learning about different types of animal relationships. Some examples are mutualism, parasitism, and symbiosis. I think that making a piece of art about these relationships would be really cool. I was also thinking about making a series of smaller illustrations about all the different relationships. For example, in mutualistic relationships, both animals are benefiting from the behavior of the other animals. One of my favorite examples of this relationship is the crocodile and the Plover bird. The crocodile gets their teeth cleaned and the bird gets food so neither animal hurts the other because they both benefit at no cost. This also creates the foundation for an art piece that could contain a lot of contrast like the photo below.
Another biological principle that interests me is bioluminescence. I find it super interesting that some animals have bodies that can turn chemical energy into visible light. I think that this could lead to some really beautiful art pieces that include jellyfish which are already beautiful themselves. I could play around more with the colors in this piece as well. In this piece I would use the contrast between light and dark instead of the actual animals in the piece. For both possible projects I would be using digital painting as my medium.
I ended up choosing the bioluminescence theme because I really wanted to draw something glowing and bright. My digital painting piece is inspired by the theme of finding the light within yourself and doing what makes you happy. I was inspired by the beauty of many different jellyfish and the freedom of their movement.
