I updated my Project Proposal to accurately describe this final project:
Title: Dual
The theme of my project is dealing with mental illness. Depression drags down and drains its host, causing him/her to feel lost and empty. I want to reflect that feeling in the colors used in my image. The colors will be muted or in black and white to emphasize the drain of life itself. The photograph will feel suppressed and muted as both the color and focus give a hazy glow over the image.
Because this project is a self-reflection, I will use myself for the subject. There will be two figures of the same person, expressing the dual personality. One will be of one’s true self and the other as her depleting influence. The “true self” figure will have a muted color to suggest the person is still there but being influenced by her “demons”. She will be looking away from the camera because she does not know how to face her problems. The other figure will be in black and white. This figure will be blurry and hazy to show it’s not a physical but a psychological presence. At first, this figure will be hard to notice paralleling the illness itself. Also, this figure will look straight at the viewer to confront him/her.
