One of the things that really invokes thought within me concerning the art of photography is the ability or willingness to work with the medium, to manipulate it. As a technology it can interpret visual information in any number of ways, and one way that Adam Fuss manipulates that is with the temporal distillation of a moving exposure, combining that with a moving subject is absolutely incredible.
I had recently became a fan of another work by Nathaniel Stern that utilizes the moving element of a flatbed scanner to achieve similarly distorted effects. His decision to take it underwater in a medium that is always moving, filled with life that is constantly shifting is the most fascinating combination and is definitely worthy of accolade from the perspective of traditional photography.
