Short Assignment: Color Portrait

Overall
For this short assignment my class was divided into groups and asked to interview each other based on our personal chosen colors. I was partnered up with two great individuals, Yan and Caroline.
Yan chose blue to be her favorite color; describing it to bring her comfort, relaxation, and bittersweet emotions. Blue reminds Yan of soft textures, which leads me into the photograph. I chose to display Yan’s personality by shooting a blue scene during a movie, one of Yan’s favorite movies Wall-E. She enjoys films, animation, and anime; loves to listen to rock music, and prefers the night time atmosphere. Yan favorites the Winter season, leading me to shoot with little to no warmth.
Caroline chose royal blue and teal for her favorite colors. She describes the color to bring her feelings of being at home, a color tone she would use to decorate her room with. Caroline images this color to taste like a cooled down latte, in my image I only had tea available to shoot on. She believes the color would sound like her favorite type of music, Indie; which I tried to portray through the sight of the record player. Caroline enjoys succulents and the Fall season. I wanted to convey this enjoyment through adding succulents, keeping the warming tone of Fall, and Earthy feel combing both warmth and seasons.

of the Stony Brook University campus at sunset. After a long day of classes and stressing out about the heavy workload for the week. I walk back to my car passing many students on my way. The Staller steps are full of people relaxing and taking in the warm weather. The sky is a light pink, giving a hue to the environment and causing a warm glow to spread the campus. Everyone seems to be at peace as they quietly talk to one another. As my journey back to my car continues I spot a group of guys throwing a football on a large open patch of grass. The grass is a deep vibrate green, and shows that it is well looked after. I feel my shoulders release most of its tension as I observe my fellow peers being themselves. I feel that many loose track of time, or do not take in their surroundings because they are too busy in their own heads. These moments of leisure after a long day of studies reminds me of peace. I realize how fond of afternoon classes I am because of the life change around me. The ambiance of a community and being together, as the sun goes down is something very special.

of younger self, my sister, Omi and Opi eating lunch. Every summer my sister and I spent everyday at my Omi and Opi’s house. We arrived at nine in the morning, after getting dropped off by my mom who rushed to work. The sun peeks through the dense trees surrounding the house. The birds sing as they start their day. The house is warm and filled with love. I can smell the delicious food my Omi is cooking for us. My sister and I are sat in the living room playing with toys, as my Omi is seen in the doorway behind us. The room is filled with yellow hues and it is quiet but peaceful. The drapes hanging onto the windows shine with sunlight and create a beautiful complex pattern to be spread onto the furniture and walls around us. The security and safeness can be felt through the image. The comfort and morning peace was something I took for granted. Looking back into my memories I wish I could experience this one last time. I experienced it everyday for so many years as a child, but now that time has past I can only think back to my thoughts. This is a image in my head that I hope to never forget.
