Sebastiao Salgado is a Brazilian photojournalist and social documentary photographer. Sebastiao Salgado was born February 8, 1944 in Aimores, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He currently in Paris, Frances. He began his career in 1973 and has travelled over 100 countries for his projects and series. Salgado has done many series but he is mostly known for his long-lasting series.

The first series that I go over is his Kuwait: A Desert on Fire. These photos are taken after Saddam Hussein’s forces set fire to oil wells in retaliation to the US pushing them out of Kuwait. The fires caused an environmental disaster for local people and farmers.

Salgado is famous for his ling term series. The names of his series in order of when they were published is Workers, Migration, and Genesis. Migrations is his series on Humanity in Transition. His focus was on the phenomenon of mass migration. These photos were taken over a span of 7 years and 35 countries. He wanted to bring attention to the displacement of people near the end of the 20th century due to wars, natural disasters, environmental degradation, explosive population growth, and the growing gap between rich and poor.

His latest series is Genesis. Genesis is his biggest series, containing over 200 photos. His project is meant to bring awareness about the issues of environment and climate change. To bring awareness Salgado set on a quest to capture nature in its original state. During the photographing of this series Salgado visited he artic and desert landscapes, tropical rainforest, marine and other wildlife and communities that follow ancestral traditions.
