New York City is arguably the most diverse city in the world, with 5 unique and historic boroughs. In Brooklyn alone, there are about 200 languages spoken and 40 percent of its residents are foreign-born.  With the meeting of so many cultures bring a variety of stellar food choices. This is why I have chosen Brooklyn as my place to live starting August of 2019 and my place to photograph for this final project.

I will take two picture each, spread out across Brooklyn, in the areas that specific ethnic groups prevalent. Sunset park (Chinese culture), Williamsburg (Jewish & Spanish culture), Dumbo (Caucasian Hipster culture), Benson Hurst (Little Italy), Flatbush (Caribbean culture). All picture will be composed of the physical environment of a main street in each section and will contain an awning for cultural restaurant significant to the neighborhood. The photographs will be taken capturing people in their natural elements not interacting with the camera as much as possible. A Nikon D3400 will be used with the settings most likely (apperture:5.6, Shutter Speed:200, and ISO: 100).

One mainstream photographer who has inspired me for photographs of New York is Photographer Branden Stanton, creator of Humans of New York. Many concepts about capturing people in their environment were introduced to me by the inspiring artist Diane Arbus and Mathew Taub. Arbus captures people’s stories through her pictures of them alone, and Taub does an excellent job of making you feel like you’re in the environment he is photographing.
