Final project proposal: Deliberate color

I began this project knowing I wanted to work with a model in the studio because I was unhappy with my results with the model from the first project.  I wound up re-shooting the first project and used a plant.  I wanted to do something with form and proportion.  So I researched photographers that have work showcasing the human figure in interesting ways.  Ernestine Ruben has a portfolio of predominantly landscapes and some of models (in black and white captured in ways that they resemble landscapes).  Miguel Ribeiro who also photographs (black and white) the human body in super abstract and interesting ways sometimes very focused on geometric shapes which I find very interesting.  Roy Whiddon who has a set of black and white photographs of the human form which he calls ‘figure studies’ which helped further to inspire my shoot in focusing on the perfection of the human body and the interesting shapes that can be captured in it.

In order to attempt to draw a new perspective on the human form in my photos i decided to segment the body in a way to form negative space and additional interesting shapes.  I wanted to use black ribbon to get negative and positive space in making a contrast between the ribbon and her pale skin.  The lighting changed throughout my process and the colors which I believe enhanced the contrast and look of the shoot.  Overall I learned a lot about color and what desired outcomes are achieved using gels throughout this shoot.
