Art at OHBM2018 – Shubigi Rao

Summary:

As I came across this blog, I was intrigued by the artist’s style and artistic thought process. The artist, Shubigi Rao, works with different mediums to create her installations that display the complex nervous system, stained neurons and dendrites of marine animals. Shubigi Rao’s works showcased at OHBM 2018 includes an octopus and jellyfish and are portrayed in away that is ambiguous and open to the audience to use their imagination. It is amazing how the artist purposely mixed fact with fiction. I was particularly interested in the jellyfish because it is abstract and detailed at the same time, as it has familiarities with neurons, sparks, and communication within the nervous system. I love how the artworks resemble the way our brain processes visual information with a taste of abstraction. While exploring and reading through this blog, I am very happy to learn about interspecies communication, neurological systems of lower life forms, and the beautiful radial symmetry of siphonophores from artworks.
