Artist Statement:

What is autism? Autism is a development disorder that includes several conditions such as repetitive behavior, sensitivity to senses, sleep disorders, challenges with socializing, attention, and communication. It varies from person to person, there is not one type of autism. People with autism have strengths in one area and are challenged in others and some can live independently and others who need more support in their daily lives. For my project, I interviewed one of my closest childhood friends, Anthony. He is a 22 year old student at Queens Borough Community College who loves working with computers, spending time with friends, playing games, and meeting new people. Anthony has autism, and he is here with his wonderful mother today to talk more about their experiences, beautiful lives, and who they are as individuals. The mission of my project is to help raise awareness about the autism spectrum disorder.
