assignment 2

Throughout history many groups have been discriminated against because of their race, looks, or religion. This is the case as seen in Glory when blacks were discriminated against in the civil war. Before the final battle scene in the movie the blacks were not actively recruited for the military because whites looked them down upon. Whites did not have faith in African Americans to fight for our country. At one point in the movie the black soldiers were paid less than white soldiers because the African Americans were not seen as equal. I do not think this was fair to the black soldiers because they were risking their lives just like the white soldiers. They were very brave to step up and fight when no one had faith in them. Throughout the movie there are many racial slurs at the black soldier but the black soldiers continued to fight for their country and freedom. The black soldiers never let racism stop them from reaching their goals.

After the civil war blacks were still not seen as equal to whites but they did hold a slightly higher position within the United States social system. Black soldiers started to be actively recruited to fight in the military. African Americans have fought in each of the wars since the Civil War and now play a major role within the military system.
