Project 4 – Final Project

The Sleeping Experiment Continued

Sleeping on my side (right):

Tonight I woke up with a stiffness in my neck and felt like I needed to stay in bed for another 30 minutes. Those who sleep on their right side, according to Psychology Today,  are more likely smokers and rely on caffeine. Right-side sleepers are less likely to have nightmares than left-side sleepers. This morning I woke up not remembering what I had dreamt, instead I woke up with a sore neck. Right side sleeping is not for me.

Sleeping at the foot of my bed:

I was both excited and uncomfortable when I settled at the foot of my bed last night. I could not find any scientific information about sleeping at the foot of the bed, but I did come to find that some cultures believe in the superstition that sleeping with your feet facing your bedroom door is bad luck because traditionally dead bodies are removed from a bedroom feet first. My bed is positioned so my feet face the door, and now I am considering rearranging my room. I never noticed that there is a dent in my bed that dips where I normally sit (with my back against the wall at the head of my bed), so sleeping at the foot of my bed wasn’t the most pleasant. I did not have a dream I can remember and when I woke up, it took me a second to know where I was.

Sleeping diagonally:

I normally sleep on the left side of my bed, so taking up the entirety of my bed was a bit overwhelming. When I sleep, I do not realize how big my bed actually is, because I am only aware of the side I sleep on. Sleeping diagonally can give a sense of control which is good for sleeping habits. Upon awaking, I found my self on the left side of my bed. I guess my body prefers the left and reject any other part of my bed. I did not have a dream I remember.

Structure of Thought

For my final project I wanted to make an abstract painting that represents the chaos of thought. Although thought is created by structure, from my experience, thoughts can be extremely unstructured and can flow in any which way, starting at one place and ending somewhere completely different. I want to portray this through a painting that uses acrylic paint.
