100 Words personal essay-1ppou3g

Finally, I decided to do the urban landscape. I am always interested in researching landscape, last time I did a project focusing on still life landscape with a macro lens. For this project, I went to the city and chose some spots to shoot. For instance, East Village and Washington Park. I divided my pictures into several specific series. To make them look like poems, and sound like the musical.

Some people may argue that urban constructions are not belonging to “landscape”, I just strongly disagree with that opinion. Life is colorful and it has a diverse definition. Those constructions are made by human beings, no matter they are landmarks or not. In that case, they have meanings inside them. Every time when I see urban landscapes, like the scrapers; It seems like I can read their historical background information through the design.

One more thing, while I was using the lens to record urban landscape, I found some other funny stories I can tell as well, such as cute animals and natural narratives. In all, I believe the city has its life inside it, waiting for us to discover.

Teju Cole – short assignment (Due 11/28)

Someone may think the picture is curious or even strange. When I see this one, it is quite normal for me since I am the one who always have different inspiring ideas with others. Thus, I can kind of understanding his images. Let me explain it. Everyone has diverse opinions on one pic. Some may think it is normal, some may argue it is genius. From my point of view, this one is unique. It looks like he took this picture through a transparent glass. The outside world is sunny, it makes the inside background darker than I expected. Also, the sunlight causes some shade in the pic. The full image is composed by several array of globes which are the main subjects in it. One more thing interested, some globes are full exposed of sunlights, some globes are still sat underneath local shadows. Hence, even though they are all globes, this way of using shades or shadows create an entire different artistic conception unexpectedly.

In all, Teju Cole was born to be Master as well.

~Larry

“I don’t like judge people, but people like to judge others. I always have the different perspective with others. Some think I’m the genius, some think my photos are just okay withour listening to my story or explaination which may not ignorant but shallow. Please understand my interpretation in the appropriate way, as Teju Cole said.”

~Art is not defined, but like a thoughtful poem.

Altered Perception–Project 5

As normal people, we always see or hear in normal ways. Thus, in this project, I am planning to explore this world from another perspective. Just like the deaf, I may use images to transmit sounds. For instance, how does sounds reflect on their minds. Actually, I got some ideas through an anecdote of Vincent Van Gogh. Some folks said, the reason why Van Gogh can draw pictures like Starry Night is because his vision and hearing are not very good. At that moment, there were no glasses. Therefore, he saw the different sights with terrible sharpness in a silent world.

Here are two series focusing on people who do not have good vision:

~Hearing

sound of printer

sound of water-not water drop

sound of wind

slow shutter speed

still fallen leaves

~Vision

light spot(like open the curtain)

snow and cloudy

intensive color contrast(reflected light of snow)

Please wear glasses if you do not have good eyesight!

Project 4 Storytelling – Narrative Sequence

Image

My topic is about my roommate David Cho who is an ABC. I call this serie as “Waste Time”. Specificly, I focus on his back and his shade. It is more likely to be a documentary, I use three days to shot his usual behaviors. He often has several daily activities to do such as playing computer games, eating and sleeping in one day. David always like to stay in dorm and lie on bed, instead of coming out and enjoy the fresh air.

sleeping in daytime(look at the shadow)

playing games

leave for shower time

back gaming

game later

go eating at midnight

Reflection:

As a potrait photographer, I found it is not easy take a portrait especially in using the light. When you are trying to get enough light, you should use the wide aperture, in that case it makes pictures look pretty intense. However, if you want to have the effect of blurring, you need to use the narrow aperture. For me, this is a bit contradictory, but I am still exploring. Since I seldom photoshop my pics, “Bright or dark?” that is a question for me. More importantly, it is good for photographers to tell their models how to make poses that they want rather than let models do it randomly. For instance, I usually want my objects look like fall in deep concentration. Literally, I took several sets of each model, and I pick only one which I love most in each group.
