Tewa Barnosa

Tewa Barnosa is a Libyan artist whose work resemble art activism. Many of her pieces explore to specific cultural dialogues through the use of languages and ancient script. Typologies have been neglected and denied by Libya and its government, and her symbolic use of such writing portrays that deep neglect that washes over Libyan culture. My favorite work is “Silent protests,” where she has written 50 protestor statements on 50 bricks. She wants to get across that each individual part in Libya’s history can create a larger narrative. The statements “describe the terror and horrific conditions which Libyans live in, some are written in dark humour and longing for a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel.”
