For the Presentation by Dr. Arianna Maffei it was very interesting to hear her talk about how tastecan affect us and all the ways it’s connected to memory and has to do with genetics and many other things.Throughout her talk two things that resonated with me and I found very interesting was how we associatetastes such as bitter, sour, sweet, salty and umami. Another topic within her talk I found interesting washow some people can inherit their taste receptors. It was very interesting to hear how us as humans associate taste with specific things in the way DrArianna Maffei described it. We associate the 5 basic tastes: aversive tastes being bitter associated withpoison, and sour being associated with spoiled food. Another association is with palatable foods such as:sweet being associated with calories, salty with electrolytes and umami with proteins. I never thought oftaste this way and it was really great to learn about those associationsAnother fascinating thing I learned was about taste receptors and how people can taste foods thatcan be inherited. Some people can inherit being picky eaters in a sense and others not. Some people caninherit both from parents and be in between being not a super picky eater or open to liking everything.During the talk with Dr. Ariana Maffei it was very interesting to learn about how taste works andhow our brain processes it. It was a very interesting and in depth topic that i enjoyed very much.
