The Starn Twins
Structure Of Thought
Doug and Mike Starn, American artists born 1961, identical twins are known for many of their series and their conceptual work. In their series of photographs “Structure Of Thought” the imagery consists of trees and their intertwining branches and twigs from different angles, and different sizes. Some of the pieces and photographs in the series contain more than on photograph collaged onto one another. Each photograph resembles similarities to the brain in different ways. The trees twist and the twigs emerge out connecting to one another. This resembles the structure of a neuron and the ways that neurons connect to each other and fire when a thought is made. Neurons transport information and this series of work is visually similar to a neuron in action, what a physical thought looks like.
