Development Environment
This database management system will be created using FileMaker Pro. FileMaker Pro is a relational database application used by many businesses for a variety of purposes. Using FileMaker Pro, I will be created a database containing each exhibit, piece, event, etc. that the Long Island Museum would like to keep track of. FileMaker is also a cross-platform application, meaning it will be very simple for the iPad kiosks to communicate with the database. This will make it much easier for the museum staff and admins to update the database over time as well. FileMaker’s clean and user-friendly interface will be very beneficial when it’s time for user to query items both on the website and at the iPad kiosks.
Projection System (Future Work)
This projection system will consist of two projectors, each projecting on one half of the screen. There will essentially be three modes that the projection system will be running in.
Idle Mode
When no users are interacting with iPad kiosks, the projectors will have a selection of content to display. For example, upcoming events, photos of exhibits, videos, and “Welcome!” signs for incoming groups.
One User
When only one of the iPad kiosks are being used, only one projector will be in use. This will make it easier if someone were to start using the second kiosk.
Two Users
When both iPad kiosks are in use, each user will be able to view their queried content on their respective half the screen. This will allow the separate users to view separate content.
Each iPad kiosk would be paired with a projector. This would ideally allow for a seamless connection when in Idle mode, but also a more individualized setup when in One User or Two User mode
