Artist Statement

Dreams are a rich source of inspiration, it is a place where our imagination is unleashed, where the veil between the conscious and unconscious seems to be lifted away. When I researched sleep and dreams for this project, I was attracted mostly by how dreams were interpreted in the past by various cultures. When I came across two Japanese scrolls on dreams in the MET’s collection, my journey into this project was set. I illustrated three tales so far; each with hand-written tales and poems to reflect each dream. I am still in the process of completing hand stitches with button thread and embroidery. I want this work to be as dense and rich in material as each dream was for me when I experienced them.
