Self Portraits – Growing

Things will go wrong,

And at times, life will be tough.

You see me one way,

and while I see what you see, in my reflection, I see another.

I’ve grown to love the body that I’m in,

not caring what everyone else thinks,

or so I tell myself.

I have traveled to the darkest of places

but now, I feel like I’ve found the light.

I’ve grown to love the body that I’m in,

not caring what everyone else thinks

now I’m starting to believe it.

Even in the simplest of moments

I find love in every inch of me

never again I whisper to myself,

never again.

Samantha Geballe’s work focuses on body image and healing. I drew inspiration from her ongoing work which I found fascinating. Exploring human emotion, especially my own, is something that I have never been extremely comfortable sharing so through this I will be able to show my growth as a person.

Altered Perception

Chromatopsia is a condition that is characterized as the partial or total absence of color. EnChroma are a type of glasses that boost the saturation of light enabling users to view color where they once could not. These images are inspired by the reactions of people seeing color for the first time through the use of these glasses, moving from an absence of color while being indoors to an explosion of color while exploring the outdoors. Users of these glasses often walk outside to take in the color of things such as grass, a thing that those of us that do not suffer from chromatopsia take for granted.
