Golem Research Journal 3 (CRUCIAL)

Building the mannequin was a bit troublesome, but fun to do. I completed almost the whole body, he was lacking a face, his hands were made of wax, and I haven’t made his feet yet. His body though has the proper build and his body filled the spares clothes I had out very well. He wasn’t done yet but from the state he was in was convincing enough to fool/scare students and sometimes professors.

When the midterm critique coming soon, I took him out in public to see how well it worked. I had my friend record me carrying him when I was taking him to the library, I took what Isak suggested with doing something ‘risky’ to push the idea.

Walking through campus with a body in my arms something like a pretty weird ‘risky’ idea to try. Walking to the library with him in my arms was pretty weird but interesting to say. The concept I wanted to do still worked out with more results from it to see.

The sight of someone carrying a body around on campus I would think get some attention, except it didn’t. It seemed to draw little attention, some didn’t notice I’m assuming because they were too caught up to pay attention or trying not to get involved. It was what I wanted to see in my project so I was happy to see.

CRUCIAL PROJECT CHANGING MOMENT

Once I finally reached the library, I set up the mannequin into the posture of a student sleeping with his head on the table. I stepped away to watch from a distance and recorded what was happening. After five minutes of watching my Golem sleep on the table had no real effect, it was too typical and blended in. Didn’t occur to me how uneventful this whole project would have been if I pursued this original idea.

This is a photo from the first attempt putting my mannequin in public to see the response it has.

This would have entailed long hours waiting and watching a mannequin, keeping my eye peeled for people to notice with no guarantee of the results I hoped to see.

I got the results I hoped for from just carrying him across the campus, from this discovery change my concepts for the project. When I presented the one-minute video of the trip and bringing the mannequin into class gave me great feedback from the class.
