While searching for a photographer to research, I came across David Seidner on the website of the International Center of Photography. The reason why I chose to focus on David Seidner is because I was first attracted one of his series called La Theatre de la Mode, a project commissioned by the Chambre de la Couture Parisienne to revamp the fashion couture industry after World War II.
Researching about Seidner, I have found that he was considered one of the worlds top fashion photographers while he was alive. Moving to Paris, France at a young age, and making a name for himself by the age of 21. He photographed for high-end fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar; and worked with famous designers such as Balenciaga, Givenchy and most notably Yves-Saint Laurent. As he matured as a photographer, Seidner moved away from fashion photography and into portraits, and eventually did his last series on orchids before dying in 1999, at the age of 42 from AIDS.
