Memory

Project 1: Memory

Brain Files (2023)

Brain Files (2023) depicts memory as a storage system, holding onto events from the past and logging in new ones. A precursor to this idea was from the talk we had with the guest speaker Dr. Richmond. Memory can be divided into two main categories: short-term and long-term. Long-term memory can be segmented into declarative memory — a memory that acknowledges life events and overall knowledge of how the world works — and nondeclarative — a memory that can be recited by showing a certain procedure rather than telling. So, this digitally painted piece represents the ways of long-term memory through a visual representation of what it means. Very closely, you can be little men maneuvering through it to sort out memories and are the ones that are “responsible” for memory organization.
