I am an undergraduate student at Stony Brook University studying for BA in Linguistics and a minor in professional writing. I am also enrolled in the TESOL teacher prep program. While at Stony Brook University, I have had the pleasure of doing linguistic research alongside two subsequent directors of the undergraduate linguistics program. Through this research, I developed an ability to perform precise evaluations of acoustic displays. I started by transcribing Capanahua, an endangered language indigenous to the Amazon Rainforest with only about 40 speakers left. I gained experience using Praat, a computer program designed for speech analysis specific to phonetics. I learned to read spectrograms and interpret oscillograms, both of which are visual representations of soundwaves. I then continued doing linguistic research for another project which emphasized comparative phonetic analysis of bilingual speakers.

I am on track to graduate from Stony Brook University in May 2020. I am excited to attend Hofstra University in the Fall 2020 to pursue an MA in forensic linguistics.
