About Me

Hi, I’m Melissa.

Resume

When I started college, I wasn’t sure what my career path would be. Throughout high school, my interests in psychology flourished while I attended three psychology classes. I decided to continue the path of psychology when I attended college, but complement it with minors in Writing & Rhetoric and English. Because of my love for writing, I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in creative writing, editing, and media. The combination of psychology and writing courses allowed me to gain the communication, writing, editing, and rhetorical skills necessary to pursue my future career. During my four years at Stony Brook, I’ve excelled in all of my psychology, composition, and writing classes, and I’ve learned a lot about management, communication, and leadership.

I believe that I can use my knowledge of human behavior to enhance the writing skills that I’ve gained at college to help me pursue my interest in my future career in writing and media.  Since May 2018, I have been working as an Executive Assistant & Data Coordinator for Plumbers Local Union No. 200 where I have been gaining firsthand experience with writing, editing, and publishing content. I currently manage the Plumber Local Union No. 200’s website, constantly creating posts and updates. Additionally, I helped facilitate and create their 150-page 2019 Scholarship Journal, where we had over 75 advertisements published. I believe that my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my work experience remains highly relevant to my career goals. My experiences as a student, writer, and Executive Assistant & Data Coordinator have taught me how to be a prepared and effective communicator.
