Task 1 Presentation

On this page, you will find a presentation dedicated towards the work of Thomas Leuthard, a well-regarded Swiss street photographer whose artistic approach to his works highlights the everyday scenes of the city. Leuthard first began photographing cityscapes in 2009, but recently discontinued his artistic endeavors in 2014. His unique use of reflections and emphasis on minimal post-production and cropping are two interesting themes in his work.

While some critics of his work have deemed him insensitive towards other cultures/peoples in his endeavors to capture street photography, in a FAQ post on his personal blog, he remarked that he deletes photos of individuals upon their request. His photography has taken him throughout major metropolitan areas in the United States, Germany and France. His preference is for big cities as they allow for a more interesting and diverse composition.

One of his most important self-attributes is getting the right photograph in camera; he does not like to do a lot of post-production work or cropping to his photos and feels that Photoshop does not make a photograph. In his opinion, the photograph needs to look right in camera in order to look right post-production.

His works utilize high contrast and a black and white color palette to help paint his cityscapes.
