About Me

Hi there! My name is Michael Musillo and I am currently a first-year graduate student (M.S.) of Stony Brook University’s (SBU) Department of Biomedical Engineering. I received a B.E. in Biomedical Engineering from SBU in the past but decided to return to further my education by receiving an advanced degree. I spent my time after undergraduate working at a knockout mouse production lab where I learned firsthand how the biotech industry works. With my return to university, I look to expand my understanding on the topics that interest me in this broad field, as well as bring that knowledge to industry. My current interests in include genetic engineering/genetic circuits and burn wound healing/tissue engineering. After graduating with the M.S., I plan to work in industry as a research and development engineer to develop translational medicine technologies and devices. I want to bring the work from the benchtop to the bedside.

Outside of university, I spend much of my time listening to music and playing guitar, piano, and saxophone. My favorite podcast to pass the time is Stuff You Should Know because the hosts discuss a broad range of topics, broken down enough for a newcomer to understand, while still being informative and interesting. It’s the best podcast for someone who believes in lifelong learning, I highly suggest it!
