Summer 2024: Welcome Raisa and Karen! Raisa is an MD/PhD student rotating with us this summer. Raisa conducted her undergraduate training at Hunter College and we’re excited to learn from her domain expertise in neurological diseases. Karen is a visiting undergraduate student from UCLA; in addition to mastering cyclophilin activity assays she encourages the lab to keep up with their Duolingo.
Spring 2024: Welcome Vanie and Isabelle (Ming Suet)! Vanie is a Biochemistry and Structural Biology PhD student, and Isabelle (Ming Suet) is a MD/PhD student co-mentored with Dr. Ivet Bahar. Vanie will be studying mutations that alter drug binding kinetics to human kinases, and Isabelle will be studying the drug resistance and sensitivity of oncogenic fusions that occur in human leukemias.
01/2024: Welcome Kathleen! Kathleen joins the lab from the Stony Brook Chemistry Program and brings with her lots of experience in science (and adorable photos of her rabbit)!
09-10/2023: Big months! The Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine selected Markus for the 2023 award of Senior Research Excellence. Congratulations!
Ian was also selected as a student speaker in the Stony Brook Institute of Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery Symposium and won a best poster award, but best of all got a selfie with Stony Brook’s own Wolfie!
05/2023: Welcome Lila! Lila is excited to learn molecular biology techniques and teach the lab the secrets of Gen-Z speak.
05/2023: Welcome Emma! Emma joins our lab from the Structural Biology and Biochemistry graduate program. She is well-versed in analytical chemistry and crystallography and we are excited to work with her!
04/2023: Congratulations to our graduates! Yiting, Victoria, and Aziz have all graduated and moved on to excellent positions: Victoria and Yiting in industry, and Aziz has returned to finish his MD studies.
05/2022: Adventure Time! Aziz, Victoria and Ian travelled to the lab of Dr. Stefan Knapp (SGC) in Frankfurt to learn NanoBRET and the secrets of spargel. Supposedly they worked the whole time, but sightings of Seeliger lab graduate students in Hanover, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris have been reported.

06/2021: New member! Ian Outhwaite is an MSTP student from Brooklyn, NY. Welcome Ian!
02/2021: Fellowship achieved! Aziz was awarded an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service (NRSA) F30 Predoctoral Fellowship from the National Cancer Institute. Congratulations, Aziz!
05/2019: New members! Aziz Rangwala is an MSTP student from Westford, MA, and Victoria Mingione is an MCB graduate student from West Islip, NY. Welcome Aziz and Victoria!
05/2017: Another new member! YiTing Paung is a graduate student from Taiwan who joined the Seeliger lab. Welcome YiTing.
03/2017: We are pleased to announce our new member! Manish Thakur is a expert on Brk kinase from India who joined the Seeliger lab this summer. Welcome Manish!
09/2016: September was a great month! Markus was awarded the Excellence in Early Career Research Award from the Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
He was also the first place winner for his entry on Effective Communication for Physician Scientists for the “Innovations in Research Education Award” from the American Association of Medical Colleges.
03/2016: Congratulation! Congratulations to Maja for winning the Undergraduate Recognition Award in the category of Academic Excellence!
04/2016: Another award! Our very own Emilie Bouda was awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship! Congratulations Emilie and welcome to the Seeliger lab!
06/2016: Defense Success! Our very own Ivan Lebedev successfully defended his dissertation and graduated with his PhD in Biochemistry and Structural Biology. Warmest congratulations, Dr. Lebedev!
08/2015: New member! Agatha Lyczek is an MSTP student from NYC who joined the Seeliger lab this summer. Welcome Agatha!
06/2015: Graduation! Congratulations to our very own Zack Foda on his graduation! Zack was also the recipient of the prestigious Presidential Graduate award, only five of which are awarded each year University-wide.
Dr. Foda will be returning to medical school to complete the MD portion of his MD-PhD. All the best, Zack!
06/2015: Yet another award! Grace Tan was a recipient of the David Williams Memorial travel award. Congratulations!
05/2015: Award! Our very own undergrad Maja Kornaj has been awarded the URECA summer research grant!
Maja also came in first place in a poster competition among Pharmacology undergraduates at the URECA Undergraduate Research Symposium in April. Congratulations!
