Project Title: “3.2020.mp4”

Introduction to your work:

Since highschool, I have been highly involved in theater and acting. I went on to become my thespian troupe president my senior year where I wrote and directed different productions. While that was an amazing experience, once I got to Stonybrook, I began focusing on literary, digital, and video art. I want to combine these interests into creating a piece that can be engaging to watch. I’ve storyboarded animations, taken screen writing courses, and recorded artistic films already, and with a digital art background, I understand the editing programs I would be using to create this project.

Project Description:

“3.2020.mp4” would be a conceptual film in the style of a found footage horror mockumentary. While the film would come at the horror genre with a satirical focus, the theme of the project would focus on the ways individuals struggle in emergency situations. The project would follow a cast of subjects each dealing with their own personal hurdles and stubborn biases. First set as a documentary following a group of friends traveling for Spring break, things soon spiral out of control. Videos and photographs would be compiled into one film telling the story of how these individuals disappeared. At the surface, it would stand as a story about young adults disappearing one by one. Thematically, each individual would work to represent different ideologies and strategies during emergency situations. The only technical issue I will run into is experience with the equipment as I have not taken a photography class at Stonybrook previously, but all I need to remedy that is experience.

Outcomes:

  • One compiled film of collaged photography and video made to document a fake event
  • The production will include 5-6 actors trapped in a secluded setting.
  • While the production will follow styles of “shaky cam “horror”, photography and other imported videos will be collaged in.
  • The overall film will run around 15-20 minutes
  • Roughly 10-15 photographs, 3-4 “home videos”, and 20-25 “self recorded” scenes
