Parasites are cool! Parasitism is the most common “way of life” on earth and infectious diseases cause devastating losses in human and animal lives. Join us to learn about some of the most important diseases that impact local shellfish species and how these animals defend themselves against infections.

Bassem Allam grew in a family of fishermen along the Mediterranean sea and has always been attracted by saltwater. He earned a PhD degree from the University of Western Brittany in France, working on infectious diseases of clams. His current research covers various aspects of host-parasite interactions in shellfish, including shellfish immunity and resistance processes. He loves shellfish, both as a research subject and as food!
