Final Project Proposal

Final Project Proposal

PROJECT TITLE (Project 6: Final Projects Series): I am not ready for this

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

In my final project, I want to sum up my changes, philosophy, memories, and future after four years college in a different country. At this point in my life, I don’t feel secure or peaceful at all because of the uncertainty of the future. But my personality always turns my tragic stories into something funny. And this humor helps me go through a lot of sad time. To represent the same attitude and experiences, I want to face those worries by adding ridiculous and surrealism into my photoshoot.  By mixing reality routine and daydreaming, I want to announce that I am not ready for stepping into adulthood. There are confusions and struggles which need to be fixed. More importantly, I don’t want to pretend I am fully prepared; I want to keep immature attitude until it is naturally faded. By wearing graduation gown in the photo, the bright red color becomes the motif and contrasts to the typical representation of this color. This bright color is used for energy and enthusiasm, but in the series, it sarcastically contrasts with the scenes. My stages include the daily routine to symbolic psychological spaces, dealing with the various aspects of one’s life. The photos are aiming for the feeling of youth: the fresh, the boldness, the waste and the uncertainty.

OUTCOMES:

The presentation of this project is treating each photo as diplomas. They will print in the size of 11*14 to respond to the actual size of the diploma. Photos will also be rolled up and tight with the ribbons. Viewers’ actions of unrolling reveal the self of me. Graduation ceremony and diploma are like a statement to the world that you leaving the protection of the youth. But the revealing of the ridiculous photos contrasts to what people expect because of the contents. I plan to take one of the window down the hall way to set up a ceremony  setting.

METHODS AND MATERIALS:

  • graduation gown
  • ice cream
  • water gun
  • self-portraits
  • friends
  • ballons

Beside to the scenarios of the daily life, there are lots of picture going to reflect the mental space. So I am going to use the blank color background and strong studio lights on those selected scenes. During shooting, I will also try to avoid the similar color or brightness of red to show in the cropping. Photoshop will also involve the series because of the touch of surrealism.
