Design

Create a small circular motor that fits around the piping used in ECMO. The motor will be equipped with light sensors to detect optical density present within the blood (higher density means clotting is present) and also equipped with Ultrasonic Vortex emitters which will be activated when a certain optical density level is reached.

This motor will be activated when the aPTT monitoring system detects a clot based on active clotting time.

Cord consists of two 0.004m diameter cords which are 1.28m in length.

  • The cord supplies the device with voltage/power and data from the aPTT monitoring system.
  • The length of the cord allows total movement around the veno-arterial and veno-venous pipes.

The ultrasonic device attachment fits around the piping and is 0.15m in length.

  • The ultrasonic core is 0.10 m in length.
  • The movement device portion is 0.05 min length. The ultrasonic core: The effective treatment area of the sound transducers
  • The ultrasonic core: The effective treatment area of the sound transducers
    • The optical sensors are positioned in alternating lines with the ultrasound transducers.
    • Each line has 4 sensors and transducers respectively.

    The EKOS Control unit displays:

    • The aPTT monitoring system date: used to find the clotting
    • The progress and data of the optical sensors during treatment
