2015 End of Year Event–Dr. Margaret McCarthy

On May 8 and 9, 2015 Neuroscience Axis was honored to host Dr. Margaret McCarthy on the Stony Brook Campus.

On May 8, Dr. McCarthy gave a lecture entitled, The amazing origins of sex differences in the brain.  Here are some images from the talk.

The talk, held in the SAC auditorium, was well attended.

Students were highly engaged, and asked many exceptional questions.

 On May 9, Dr. McCarthy spoke about her path to a career  in neuroscience.  The room was fully occupied!

Her talk was followed by a panel discussion that included faculty from Stony Brook Departments of Psychology, Psychiatry, Neurobiology and Behavior and Neurology.

Extracurricular Opportunities to Learn about Neuroscience

Neuroscience Axis organizes opportunities to learn and share information about Neuroscience through extracurricular activities.

Each semester Neuroscience Axis sponsors a talk entitled, “How to get involved in research.”

Students learned how to assemble spiker boxes.

We learned to record action potentials with a spiker box, and we present demonstrations in the fall at the Organizational Fair, and in the spring at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URECA) conference.

At the end of each year, we hold a GALA event with Psi Chi and Psychology Student Alliance.  Past speakers have talked about the neuroscience of juggling, the path to their career in neuroscience, and Art and Neuroscience. (see our GALA post)
