PIGMENTS

Project Description

This project is an intimate cross-disciplinary work based on personal realizations and the idea of moving through pieces of art and music relating to a lifetime. The music will be primarily piano music along with strings. It is meant to be a sensory and aesthetic experience with synchronized moving parts that all relate with each other in a kind of ‘installation’ setting.

Artist Statement

I have been playing music for strings and arranging, writing music for the past ten years. I began my journey in the theatre arts mostly on the technical side of the practice and am exploring taking those disciplines to the creative side of theatre. This piece is a collaboration between myself, an artist, a musician and a light designer with help from additional musicians. My project uses recorded (including orchestrated and electronics) and live music in the form of solo cello instead of a traditional narrative. I take from the idea of ‘absolute music’ or music that doesn’t need anything else but itself to be complete, as well as set design and lighting to create a simple but emotional experience. I attempt to capture the emotional effects of film music on the audience. In my creative work, I explore the ideas of connection between art and science through thoughtful drawings and artwork with a focus on process and use of discussion and improvisation. Rather than being an isolated set of creative processes, art, or the thought process behind it at least, is an important piece of the network of all disciplines.
