Project Description
It is 1994. A crowded hospital. A young woman gives birth alone to a baby girl. It is 2018. Christmas. A family attempt to relax in front of the television. We have 30 minutes. Exactly.
Shatter is a performance lecture that invites the audience to question the portrayal of domestic violence in contemporary media – what they pay attention and what is ignored or unnoticed.
Artist Statement
I care most about language and words; which we listen to, and which we ignore. I care about how stories, however tiny, or earth-shattering thread together, and what occurs when we force ourselves to see it. I care about the relationship of repetition and layering and silence and art as a choice we make. The pieces I write are a result of the stories that stick with me. Stories that aren’t told, read, or listened to because they’re uncomfortable. At its core then, the purpose of creating for me is just to be a little more honest with ourselves.
