With nearly unlimited demands on its information technology services, Stony Brook must make decisions about where to apply IT resources that provide the best value. In addition to general IT Principles, the following Executive IT Principles, which are aligned to SBU’s strategic goals, establish the priorities for IT asset allocations:
- Enrollment Growth: Stony Brook is focused on enrollment growth of all academic programs. There will be an emphasis on IT projects that provide enrollment growth potential.
- Research Growth: Stony Brook is on a path to becoming a major research university and IT goals include support of research-intensive faculty. IT should be an enabling resource for those research projects that require IT services to enhance the university’s ability to compete in the research community.
- Retention And Graduation Rates: A critical part of enrollment is the ability to retain and graduate students as well as to enhance our students’ ability to succeed after graduation. IT services should be utilized as a supporting mechanism to improve retention and graduation whenever possible.
- Engaged Campus: Stony Brook strives to be a place where students want to attend, graduate, and return and where faculty members want to work, teach and conduct research. All should want to become an integral part of one large campus community. IT services should aim to support technology needs, encourage an environment of collaboration and open discussion, and promote engaged research. As we move forward with services that build our community, enrollment growth will be a natural reflection of that engagement.
- Student Experience And Success: IT should focus on services that create a more service-oriented culture and encourage students to succeed and complete their degrees at SBU.
- Stony Brook Brand: The Stony Brook brand has been highly successful. IT should strive to maintain momentum of the Stony Brook ‘brand’ and continue to build the reputation and visibility of the institution.
- Mutually Beneficial Alliance Among SUNY Instituions: When appropriate, IT services will be used to create and support mutually beneficial alliances among SUNY institutions for collaborative research opportunities and other higher educational initiatives.

Think you nailed these. We need to be seen as a core resource
Under Student Experience and Success maybe including something about “enhancing the learning experience/environment”
Mutually Beneficial Alliance Among SUNY Institutions, highlight collaboration while driving efficiencies
Do you think we could put this up on the screen at the retreat, align our goals, initiatives, and possibly KPI’s?
