Project I: Memory

For this project, I wanted to tap into a deep memory of my childhood. I grew up in Lithuania as a child, on a property that was covered in apple trees. Apples were a huge part of our daily diet because of that reason, and I spent a lot of my time running around these trees and trying to climb them. Although I only lived there until I was six years old, and my memory production was not sophisticated, the smell and taste of apples bring me back to those times. I designed this piece to portray that as I smell apples, my brain instantly brings me back to those memories of apple trees. And that piece of my childhood and nationality reveals itself prominently. I spent a lot of my childhood playing by myself, which I actually enjoyed and I found very peaceful at the time, so I placed myself in a dark and empty background to represent that independence I embraced.
