ARS225 Final Project

The month, August, is sad because he doesn’t have any holidays of his own and he doesn’t feel special (or interesting) at all.

The month, August, is sad because he doesn’t have any holidays of his own and he doesn’t feel special (or interesting) at all.  He compares himself to other months and asks his friend, December, for any advice that may help him with his predicament.  Sadly, it only makes him feel worse about himself and makes him what to give up.  Then he meets a boy who tells him he’s great and should be more confident, positive, and love the person, or in this case the month, who he is (also that the boy’s birthday is in August).  After this encounter, August has a more positive outlook on life as well as himself.

My intent for this [children’s story] was to teach the message that you don’t have to be like others to be happy.  You don’t need others’ approval to feel good about yourself.  You just got to be who you are, because everyone is different and special in their own way.  The moral is to feel good about yourself; to have a positive outlook or view of who you are.

Also, seeking other people’s approval by pretending to be something or someone you’re not is not the way to make friends.  If people like you just because of something you have (ie, money, games, connections, expensive things, etc.) or because you’re acting in a manner that is not normally you, then those people are not your real friends.  The people who like you for who you are your real friends.

Lastly, try to make new friends with people who might be shy or lonely or sit by themselves at lunch, because they might need a friend too.  Not everyone likes to be alone; sometimes it’s nice to have someone to talk to.
