Stony Brook University is located in the village of Stony Brook, New York, a residential neighborhood 65 miles east of New York City. We are easy to reach by air, rail, ferry, or car. Campus maps, directions, and further information are available on our Web site.
Staying Here
For overnight stays, the area offers accommodations on campus and within five miles of the campus.
For the conference, we strongly recommend booking accommodation at the Hilton Garden Inn Stony Brook, which is located on campus. Amenities include an on-site restaurant, complimentary shuttle service (local area), complimentary WiFi, indoor pool, and fitness center.
Rates, Room-Mate Finder, etc. The Hilton Garden Inn is offering a special rate for conference attendees (169.00/night plux tax; see the email we are sending Feb. 29 for information on the discount code). Conference presenters only: If you are interested in sharing a room with a fellow attendee, please register for the conference (you will be given the option of indicating your interest in sharing a room) no later than March 7. Due to limited availability, we will not be able to extend this feature to the general public.
The Three Village Inn features a “taste of New England” in historic Stony Brook village. Nestled in the heart of historic Port Jefferson,Danfords on the Sound also provides quality accommodations, many with harbor views. The Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook is also nearby (and has a limited shuttle service to/from campus). The Marriot Residence Inn in Holtsville and the Holiday Inn Long Island in Ronkonkoma are a few minutes away by car. If you will not have a car with you, the most feasible option will be the Hilton.
Getting Around
Stony Brook’s campus is set among 1,039 wooded acres, complete with a nature preserve. The Paul Simons Memorial Bike Path, six miles of pristine pavement for biking, running, and rollerblading, encircles the campus. Parking
Parking is available in the parking garages on East and West Campus and in metered parking areas, as shown on the campus map. Save time by using our Transportation and Parking Services Web Site to obtain a parking permit. Parking Services offers a motorist assistance program, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Staff are equipped to jump-start cars, help if you have locked your keys in your car, assist with slow-leaking tires, and get you going if you run out of gas.
