Conversaciones con Piglia

Ricardo Piglia. La forma inicial. Conversaciones en Princeton. Edited by Arcadio Díaz Quiñones and Paul Firbas. Prologue by P. Firbas. Talca, Chile: Publicaciones de la Universidad de Talca, 2015.

This book was reprinted, with some changes, in Buenos Aires by Eterna Cadencia in 2015, and Mexico/Madrid by Sexto Piso, also in 2015, and in 2017 by Sudaquia in New York.  The Brazilian edition Meios e finals (Peixe elétrico ensaios) is the Portuguese translation of our 2010 conversation “Medios y finales” and includes unpublished images.

See note published in La Nación (Argentina), 2015.

La forma inicial, edited by Paul Firbas and Arcadio Díaz Quiñones, includes five conversations with Argentinian writer Ricardo Piglia, a prologue by Firbas and an essay on  the “Princeton Years” by Díaz Quiñones, plus two short essays by Piglia: “La forma inicial” (also called “Modos de narrar”) and “Sobre la interpretación”. The first conversation (“Medios y finales” with Piglia, Firbas, Pedro Meira Monteiro and Fermin Rodríguez) was especially prepared for this book in 2010, a few months before Piglia’s retirement and his definitive return to Buenos Aires. This volume forms part of the Universidad de Talca (Chile) collection of titles by awardees of the José Donoso prize in Iberoamerican letters conferred by that university and the Banco Santander, which Ricardo Piglia received in 2005. It was reprinted with some variations in content, as can be seen in the indexes reproduced bellow. The Talca edition includes photographs from 1987, 2000 and 2010.

From the book back cover:

Los ensayos y conversaciones que se reúnen en La forma inicial: Conversaciones en Princeton, no solo dan cuenta de las ideas de Piglia sobre la novela, el cine o la política, sino que también comparten ciertas formas y técnicas propias de sus narraciones de ficción. Podrían servir como introducción a su obra, pero también, como una manera de releerla y estudiarla. Paul Firbas
